APIA Leichhardt FC Joins the Inaugural Australian Championship!

Football Australia has officially launched the Australian Championship, a groundbreaking national competition that will reshape the domestic football landscape. This landmark tournament, set to debut in October 2025, will provide an exciting new platform for clubs, players, and fans across the country.

As one of the eight Foundation Clubs, APIA Leichhardt FC is proud to be at the forefront of this exciting new chapter in Australian football history. With our rich heritage, passionate supporters, and commitment to excellence, APIA is ready to make an impact on the national stage.

The Road to Glory

The Australian Championship will feature 16 teams, blending eight Foundation Clubs with eight NPL clubs selected from across the country. The competition format will include:

  • Group Stage: Four groups of four teams, playing home and away fixtures.
  • Knockout Finals: The top two teams from each group advance to a high-stakes elimination series.
  • Grand Final: A championship-deciding match in December 2025 to crown the first-ever Australian Championship winner.

This structure ensures competitive integrity, fan engagement, and an opportunity for clubs to showcase their talent on a national level.

A.P.I.A. Leichhardt FC’s First Grade and Under 20s. The club’s Senior, Under 20s teams currently compete in the National NSW Premier League Men’s 1 Competition which is the highest league in the State and the league immediately beneath the A-League.

A.P.I.A. Leichhardt FC’s representative NPL1 Boys Premier Youth League Teams. The Under 13, 14, 15, 16s and 18s teams compete in the NSW National Premier Youth League Competition conducted by Football NSW. Football NSW conducts four representative Youth League’s; the Premier Youth 1, Premier Youth 2, Premier Youth 3 and Premier Youth 4.
The Premier Youth League in which the club competes is the highest youth league competition in the state.

A.P.I.A. Leichhardt FC’s Women’s Premier League (WPL1) Seniors
The club’s 1st Grade and Reserve Grade currently compete in the National NSW Premier League Women’s 1 Competition which is the highest league in the State and the league immediately beneath the W-League.

A.P.I.A. Leichhardt FC’s representative NPL1 Girls Premier Youth League Teams
The club fields four teams in the FNSW Women’s NPL1 Youth league competition being Under 14, 15, 16s and Under 18s. The club has been fielding Women and Girls competition teams successfully since 2006.
The Girls Premier Youth League in which the club competes is the highest youth league competition in the state.

A.P.I.A. Leichhardt FC’s BSAP (Boys Skills Acquisition Program) Teams. The club participates in the Football NSW Skills Acquisition Program which was developed to provide a clear, professionally delivered development opportunity for young NSW footballers that underpins the National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s and Women’s Competitions by providing the State’s young players the best possible learning environment for them to realise their footballing dreams.
The club currently fields 8 teams; two teams in each of the following age groups; Under 9, Under 10s, Under 11s and Under 12s.

A.P.I.A. Leichhardt FC’s GSAP (Boys Skills Acquisition Program) Teams. The club participates in the Football NSW Girls Skills Acquisition Program which was developed to provide a clear, professionally delivered development opportunity for young female NSW footballers that underpins the National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s and Women’s Competitions by providing the State’s young players the best possible learning environment for them to realise their footballing dreams.
The club currently fields 4 teams; one in each of the following age groups; Under 10s, Under 11s, Under 12 and Under 13s.
